Mission: Lake George Education Based Athletics will develop physical ability, enhance skill level and promote social growth and maturation.  

 

Motto: Developing Better Athletes..Better People!


 

Vision:  Education Based Athletics can be used to develop the qualities of citizenship, character, responsibility, self-discipline, respect, sense of community, and commitment to others while teaching the importance of sportsmanship and the value of teamwork.

We are dedicated to providing a program that teaches lifetime skills and provides access/opportunity, quality coaching/instruction and engages community and parents.

Access / Opportunity

Student Athlete participation in sports provides a wealth of opportunities and experiences that assist in their education and will serve them throughout their life in a variety of different ways.

Student Athletes have access to a wide variety of sport offerings as appropriate to our school size.  

 

Student Athletes have access to high quality / well maintained facilities to practice and compete on.

 

Student Athletes will have the opportunity to develop their physical abilities, enhance skill levels, and grow socially.

  • All student athletes will demonstrate the skills and personal qualities taught through athletics and implement them to be positive successful members of the community.

  • Ensure all students have access to athletic participation.

  • Update, Renovate, & Improve all athletic facilities to modern standards.

  • Ensure that Education Based Athletic Program is adequately funded in order to provide Student Athletes Access and Opportunity.

  • Provide training for administrators and coaches on developing and using innovative coaching strategies and techniques. (including youth coaches)

  • Seek to hire coaches who are qualified and can enact athletic vision.   

  • Foster avenues for parental and

            community involvement and

            partnerships designed to support

            student athlete success.

  • Utilize various communication strategies to promote understanding and support of Athletic Vision.

A) Continue with LG Captains Leadership Council Course - Year 3.










 

B) Explore and further community service component to Education Based Athletics.

A) Completed year 3 of LG Captains Leadership Council Course. Covering topics including: Job description, leadership styles, hazing, bullying, conflict resolution, sportsmanship, proper use of social media and service leadership (community service)

 

A) Used stakeholder feedback to to improve course curriculum.

 

B) Varsity Club members assisted in planning and coordinating 1st annual senior give back day during fall spirit week.

 

B) Majority of Varsity Sports Teams engaging in community service during their seasons.


 

#2 Access / Opportunity

A) Advocate for athletic facility needs in master facilities planning.






 

B) Continue to provide complete care to student athletes through Athletic Trainer services. Investigate increased coverage options.







 

C) Continue to investigate and increase access/opportunity to weight room/fitness center for student athletes.





 

D) Explore increased staffing to meet student athlete participation levels.


 

A) Continued work on athletic facilities. (i.e. Portable Bleachers, Soccer Bench Shelters)

 

A)  AD & Coaches met with architects as planning begins for capital project referendum.  

 

B) Provided additional support to our student athletes through Athletic Trainer services 2.5 days a week and all football games. Advocated for and discussed an increase in services. Due to multiple factors no planned increase in coverage for 2018-19.

 



 

C) Year 2 summer strength and conditioning program with paid instructors.

 

C) Advanced PE Elective offered as full year course meeting 5 days a week.

 

D) Added Modified XC Running Coach

 

D) Year 2 Unified Basketball Team through Special Olympics NY and NYSPHSAA. Discussed possibility of adding Unified Bowling in the future.

C) Conduct Coach Book Study- 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.

 

D) Utilize I-Pads as coaching tool and to enhance coaches access.



 

E) Continue Coaches Advisory Committee work with review of practices, policies and procedures.

A) 7 Sport programs coaching staffs attended conferences or utilized online Professional Development.

 

B) YC Director & Coaches included in Athletics Round Table to reinform Mission/Vision.

 

B) Provided opportunities of Varsity Coaches to conduct YC clinics and continued to cultivate relationship with YC program.

 

C) Conducted Coach Book Study -  7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.

 

D) All coaches issued I-Pads providing access to Hudl (video) software, SI Play App, WeatherBug App, Etc.

 

E) Coaches Advisory Committee  reviewed Athletics Round Table feedback and worked on revised Mission, Vision, Values & Targets.  

#4 Community/Parents

A) Continue to investigate various ways to educate parents, coaches and community regarding Booster Club mission.




 

B) Continue to foster avenues for increased membership/volunteerism to Booster Club.

A) Conducted membership drives, and direct mailings to educate parents, coaches and community regarding Booster Club mission.

 

A) Utilized Social Media to promote the club and it’s missions.

 

B) Hosted bi-monthly Booster Club meetings and engaged coaches, players & parents to assist club in variety of ways.

Student Athlete participation in sports provides a wealth of opportunities and experiences that assist in their education and will serve them throughout their life in a variety of different ways.

A) Conduct LG Captains Leadership Council Course

(Year 4 with particular curricular focus on Character, Respect, Sportsmanship and Community. Themes from Athletics Round Table 2017)

 

B) 100% of Varsity Teams will participate in a community service/special cause fundraiser.  

 

C) 100% of Modified Student Athletes will participate in learning opportunity related to inclusion and diversity.

#2 Access / Opportunity

Student Athletes have access to a wide variety of sport offerings as appropriate to our school size.  

 

Student Athletes have access to high quality / well maintained facilities to practice and compete on.

 

Student Athletes will have the opportunity to develop their physical abilities, enhance skill levels, and grow socially.

A) Provide complete care to student athletes through Athletic Trainer services.  (5 Day Coverage based on proven need and budget considerations)

 

B) Increase access/opportunity to weight room/fitness center/gyms for student athletes. Through scheduling, volunteer support and 10th period supervision increase access from 135 hours a week to 225 hours.

 

C) Monitor staffing to meet student athlete participation levels (based on multiple year participation trends per sport) and Athletics Mission, Vision & Values.


 
 

#3 Quality Instruction/ Coaching

A) 100% of Varsity Coaches will complete at least one professional development opportunity.

 

B) Present and discuss LG Athletics Mission/Vision to Youth Commission Leadership/Coaches.

 

C) Conduct Coach Book Study-Coaching for Leadership: How to Develop A Leader in Every Locker- Corey l. Dobbs Ed, D.

 

D) Conduct Seasonal Coaches Advisory Committee to review practices, policies procedures and the Athletic Mission, Vision & Values.



 
 

#4 Community/Parents

 

All Lake George parents, community and business leaders will have the opportunity to fulfill their roles as actively engaged

partners in supporting LG Athletic outcomes for student success.

 

A) Educate parents, coaches and community regarding Booster Club mission via direct mailings, email blasts and social media/website.

 

B) Foster avenues for increased membership/volunteerism to Booster Club via coaches preseason meetings, direct mailings, email blasts and social media/website.

 

C)  Facilitate learning opportunity related to sportsmanship and the impact parents have as role models to our student athletes.
